Context:
A private university has information about its undergraduate programs distributed across several websites. The program directors are responsible for the content on these sites and for keeping the information up to date.
How the analysis was triggered:
A professor approached the digital media team to request the inclusion of content related to the classes he teaches. This led him to investigate who the main users of the undergraduate program websites are.
Hypothesis::
The current content (March 2019) is not being read by students in the programs.
Usability tests:
Usability tests were conducted with new students, up to a maximum of second semester. The tests were conducted over a two-week period, with the participation of 39 students.

Analysis
70% of visitors to undergraduate degree websites were looking for information about the curriculum. Other topics of interest included general information about the program and details about the professors.
Students also showed interest in content related to their professional future, such as job offers, alumni news, and specific processes related to their career, such as social service. 100% of respondents said they visit websites regularly. The most relevant social networks for them are YouTube and Facebook. Among their most common activities are studying, socializing with friends, watching videos, going to the movies, sleeping, and spending time with family.
The topics of interest to students are directly related to their career, which represents an opportunity to create content that, while not necessarily academic, is related to their areas of professional and personal interest.
An important point is that 100% of participants reported not finding support material for the subjects they are studying on their degree program websites. Instead, they turn to other online sources to supplement their studies.
Conclusions
Undergraduate program websites are unattractive to today's student population. Although most students consulted these sites when comparing university options before enrolling, their interests change once they enter college. Now, they seek information that will help them in their academic and professional development.
To turn users into repeat visitors, it is essential to offer content of interest that is updated more frequently, thus capturing their attention and keeping them engaged.
